Nadiya Tucker

Nadiya Tucker is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland. After graduating with her B.S., she joined the Peace Corps in Kenya, where she served for two years as a community health volunteer. During that time, Nadiya spearheaded the planning of community events geared toward public health education and topics including HIV/AIDS prevention, reproductive health, and malaria prevention.

Nadiya later returned to the U.S. and after graduating with her MSW, started her career in higher education.  She carries a special interest in serving the international student population including immigrants and first-generation university students for over 7 years, providing direct clinical services to university students.  Her areas of clinical expertise include providing individual therapy, group therapy, case management, outreach, crisis intervention, and training/supervision. She has a special interest in working with adjustment issues, anxiety, depression, self-growth, family-of-origin concerns, and interpersonal communication.

Nadiya works through a multi-cultural lens and primarily uses a short-term, solution-focused, skills-based approach. She often employs principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and crisis intervention techniques in her work.

Nadiya works in English and Krio.
