Anna Huisman

Anna holds a post-graduate senior social worker degree from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. She also holds post-graduate degrees in Mental Health and Psychology with a special focus on children and adolescents. She is a transcultural Marital and Family Therapist licensed in the Netherlands at the Dutch Association for Marital and Family Therapy.

She specialises in therapy using a psychoanalytic and systemic approach. She works with adults, children, and adolescents. For young children, Anna conducts therapy through play and drawing. She provides support for those entering parenthood and psycho-education for parents in need. She works with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, identity crisis, grief, stress, and burn-out amongst other issues. She facilitates couples and family counselling sessions where she takes a personalised approach based on her clients’ cultural background, specific needs, and strengths to come up with the best solution for them. Anna believes that families are important to come up with the best solutions when confronting life issues. She also believes in peoples’ potential to rediscover their own true selves and strengths by empowering their ability to create awareness within themselves as well as by increasing positive support in their lives through reconnection with others.

In addition to her clinical work, Anna has more than 36 years of experience in public health working with children, youth, families, and couples.  She has rich international work experiences where she has worked in Ghana with people who have special needs and their families; Lesotho as a counsellor for the UN; and with displaced youth placed in a prison and their families. She also spent time in Cambodia as a freelance counsellor, trainer, and supervisor at the Royal University of Phnom Penh providing a Family Therapy and Systems practice. Anna is an experienced trainer and supervisor for individuals and groups.
