Damien Niyonsaba

Damien is a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMHN). He completed Mental Health Nursing program at the University of Rwanda College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Alongside his formal education, Damien has pursued various trainings, including Multicultural Trauma Treatment, Family and Narrative Therapy, The 6Cs in Therapy, Physical & Mental Health Unbreakable Cycle, Community Resiliency Model Skills Trainings, and the 8th International Forensic Summer School organized by the Institute of Legal Medicine/UKE. He is currently pursuing studies in Counseling Psychology at Mt Kenya University.

Damien joined the Solid Minds team in February 2020, where he provides follow-up care, psychosocial support, psychosocial rehabilitation and he support in crisis management to clients with various mental health conditions. He also conducts some physical health screenings for our clients and participates in mental health promotion and awareness activities, particularly with younger generations. Damien offers a unique service that supports and promotes clients’ adherence to their medications as needed.

He is knowledgeable and experienced in organizing community activities that promote mental well-being, including enhancing the social and functional status of clients. During his studies, Damien served as the president of the Rwanda Mental Health Nursing Students Association (RMHNSA) at the University of Rwanda. In collaboration with Ministry of Health, he contributed to Rwanda’s Covid-19 Preparedness and Response efforts as a nurse vaccinator during the pandemic. He worked as a psychiatric nurse at Ndera Neuro-Psychiatric Teaching Hospital for 2 years, where he contributed in management clients experiencing mental health crises.

Damien works in Kinyarwanda and English.

Solid Minds Press Release

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Nations, a voluntary association of 56 independent and equal countries. Home to 2.5 billion people, the Commonwealth encompasses both advanced economies and developing countries. Rwanda joined the Commonwealth in 2009 as the 54th member state and proudly hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
