Dr. Charles Mudenge

Dr. Charles Mudenge is a consultant psychiatrist with 14 years of experience, specializing in general psychiatry and with expertise in geriatric, child, adolescent, forensic psychiatry, and addiction. Known for his compassionate, patient-centered approach, he is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of mental health disorders.

Dr. Mudenge earned his medical degree from the National University of Rwanda in 2004 and completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Nairobi in 2009, receiving comprehensive training in diagnosing and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions. Skilled in treating depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, and PTSD, he utilizes evidence-based practices, including psychopharmacology and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

Throughout his career, Dr. Mudenge has worked in leading healthcare institutions such as Mathare Psychiatric Hospital in Kenya, University Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB), Ndera Neuro-Psychiatric Teaching Hospital, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). At Solid Minds Counseling Clinic, he offers tailored treatment plans, emphasizing individualized care, especially for older adults with dementia and families navigating mental health challenges.

Dr. Mudenge also serves as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Rwanda, where he is deeply involved in training medical students and residents, mentoring young psychiatrists, and fostering the next generation of mental health professionals. His interests include psychiatric research, neurodevelopmental care, and psychopharmacology.

As a strong advocate for mental health awareness, Dr. Mudenge actively participates in community outreach, partnering with local and regional organizations to promote mental well-being and reduce stigma around mental health.
