Souvenir Alphonsine
Souvenir is a licensed Clinical Psychologist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Public Health from the University of Rwanda. In her capacity professional development, Souvenir has been continuously trained on additional psychological approaches and special topics such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Community of Practice, generational trauma and addictions. She has an extensive experience of 14 years providing counseling, mental health and GBV prevention services. Souvenir provides counseling to individuals including children, women, couples, families, students counseling and group support therapies to various groups as well as psychological debriefing sessions to organizations in need.
In provision of counseling, she intervenes in a wider range of mental health issues including loss-related issues, grief, anxiety, rape and sexual abuse, Gender-Based Violence, depression, stress management, immediate crisis, disappointments, anger and guilt, traumatic exposures, emotional disturbances, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, guidance counseling, to name some.
Souvenir has worked with local and international organizations intervening in healthcare, mental health and gender programs in the Rwandan healthcare system specifically in Maternal, New-born and Child health with the focus on integration of mental health and Gender/ Gender-based violence in routine maternal healthcare services provision; sexual and gender-based violence with survivor-centered approach (case management) as well as social inclusion. In addition to her participatory strategies, Souvenir builds on her fluency in English, French, and Kinyarwanda to design training curricula and facilitate training or workshops on mental health, Gender/GBV, psychosocial support, SGBV prevention and response, including awareness-raising and case management. She also has a rich experience in field research, including evaluation studies (baseline, midterm, and end-line studies).
