Extraordinary Experiences
He specializes in trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and migration but also works with people experiencing depression, insomnia, and anxiety, among others. He conducts training on trauma, PTSD, and migration’s crisis.
Alexandre has worked in mental health for more than ten years. After his studies, he worked as a psychologist in a mobile team for two years in Senegal. He worked with the child protection service, the psychiatric service of the regional hospital, the State Prison, and with children living on the street. He initiated a community mental health project with traditional practitioners. In Belgium, he has worked with clients with psychosis and addictions.
Most recently, Alexandre worked in a specialized service for exiled people and migrants. Alexandre offers flexible support at one’s own pace, based on a global approach seeing a person in his/her body, with his/her story as well as that of the family, and culture.
Drawing on an emotion-focused and relational psychotherapy style, Alexandre sees the client-therapist relationship as the foundation for healing and growth.
Specialities
Depression
Depression is a mental health condition characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, and low energy levels, significantly affecting daily life.
These symptoms can also manifest as changes in appetite, sleep patterns, and concentration, leading to feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and thoughts of self-harm.
Professional help is crucial in managing depression, with treatments including therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes aimed at improving overall well-being and restoring a sense of normalcy.
Trauma
Trauma is an emotional response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope, leaving them with lasting psychological and physical effects.
It can be caused by a single event or repeated experiences and can have a profound impact on a person’s life, affecting their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. A trained therapist at Solid Minds can help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences through trauma therapy.
Trauma therapy at Solid Minds is provided by trained therapists who specialize in helping individuals heal from various types of traumatic experiences to address the root causes of their trauma, manage their symptoms, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
The goal of trauma therapy is to empower individuals to regain control of their lives, improve their emotional well-being, and move forward from their past experiences with resilience and strength.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (or “PTSD” for short) is a mental health condition that can develop after someone experiences or witnesses a terrifying event.
It involves lasting and distressing symptoms like flashbacks, bad or scary dreams (nightmares), and severe anxiety that interferes with daily life. A trained Solid Minds therapist can help individuals with PTSD process and heal from their traumatic experiences through trauma therapy, which involves creating a safe and supportive environment, exploring the trauma, and developing coping mechanisms.
Solid Minds therapists ensure the creation of a safe environment where the individual can explore their trauma and develop coping mechanisms to manage their symptoms and improve their daily lives.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. It is a normal human emotion that everyone experiences from time to time.
However, when anxiety becomes excessive, persistent, and interferes with daily life, it may be a sign of an anxiety disorder. Symptoms of anxiety can include: excessive worrying, restlessness, fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension, and sleep problems.
A trained therapist at Solid Minds can help individuals manage their anxiety through therapy, which may include cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices. The goal of therapy is to help individuals understand their anxiety, develop coping mechanisms, and improve their overall well-being.
Insomnia
Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by persistent difficulty falling or staying asleep, or experiencing non-restorative sleep. This can lead to daytime impairment, such as fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating.
A trained therapist can help individuals manage their insomnia through therapy, which may include cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).
This therapy helps individuals identify and change thoughts and behaviors that contribute to insomnia, develop healthy sleep habits, and learn relaxation techniques. The goal of therapy is to help individuals understand their sleep patterns, develop coping mechanisms, and improve their overall well-being and sleep quality.
