Pierre Dongier
Pierre is Solid Minds’ Consulting Physician and a medical doctor who graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1976. He completed a Masters in Health Administration at Universite de Montreal in 1994.
During his career in Montreal, he worked as a general practitioner in a clinic for refugees, Clinique Sante-Accueil, from 1989 to 2006. He has a keen interest in the mental health of his patients and a long experience in treating psychiatric and psychological problems. In 1994, he participated in the creation of the network of practitioners working with people who suffered organised violence (RIVO), a multidisciplinary group bringing together social workers, psychologists, nurses, medical doctors and psychiatrists who work with survivors of torture and other organised violence. In Clinique Sante-Accueil and in RIVO, he participated in monthly case discussions and supervisions for the care and treatment of patients with mental health problems. He was never trained in psychotherapy, but offers his experience to address the medical aspect for the care of clients followed by psychotherapists.
He has been living in Rwanda for the past 15 years (since 2007) and working mostly as a specialist in Public Health. His main areas of expertise in the field of Public Health are policy design and strategic planning, program review and evaluation, leadership, governance ,and management of health services.
